Woodwork and Metallic Trim Beautifully Restored in Hamden, CT Synagogue

Earlier this year OFS Field Wood and Field Metal crews combined their efforts to restore the Ark Doors at Temple Beth Sholom

This was a highly demanding project for the OFS field crews who pulled together and delivered exceptional results. The first step was to turn the Synagogue’s Bimah into our prep area.

The Ark doors were massive – approximately 20 feet tall and over eight feet wide. The mirrored brass was inlaid into the mahogany doors.
Our approach was to restore the brass first by stripping, compounding to remove existing tarnish, and buffing to a mirror finish while not doing harm to the mahogany.

Once that was completed the brass needed to have a protective coat of lacquer applied to prevent oxidization.

In 2-Days the Metallic Finish was Fully Cured
Next, the OFS Field Wood crew was able to expertly tape off all the brass to protect it before starting restoration of the mahogany.

All of the scratches, nicks, and dents were addressed.

With both the brass and now the mahogany restored the tricky part begins. The entire door must be sealed in several coats of gloss lacquer. For those readers who understand finishing you can now see the problems.
